NC Triangle Bucket List

Sunday afternoons at Parker & Otis

The paradox of wedding planning is that you’re preparing for one of the happiest days of your life, but that process can be truly terrible. Unless you’re really careful, the process can often turn into a never-ending list of decisions that makes the wedding seem like an obligation instead of a celebration.  Because of this, when I’m talking with friends about wedding stuff I always like to do it in a fun location, or while enjoying a treat. So this weekend when my friend Hannah wanted to go through some wedding details, I suggested Parker & Otis.

The tables have adorable paper flowers in mason jars!

On a cloudy Sunday afternoon, Parker & Otis is an ideal place to catch up with friends. It’s a breakfast and brunch place, a coffee bar, a gift shop and a wine store all rolled into one, meaning there’s something for every taste. I’ve had a bunch of breakfasts there, and the food is simple but good; it tastes like a really good home-cooked meal.

Coffee menu, AKA their many ways to deliver caffeine to the bloodstream.

But on this occasion, we were there for coffee and wedding talk. They’ve got good coffee options – the espresso bar is separate from the food bar, for better coffee concoctions. I went with a latte, and Hannah chose a vanilla iced coffee. Generally my coffee preferences mirror the weather, but I’m a sucker for a warm ceramic mug in my hands during quality conversations. They’ve got both indoor and outdoor seating, and on days that aren’t too hot it’s lovely to sit on their back porch. Today, however, we opted for indoor seating under their funky cute gallery wall, full of  quotes, graphics, antique photos, and the odd set of painted antlers. Very millennial.

I aspire to having gallery walls like this. Until then, I sit here and stare at this one.

My favorite thing about Parker & Otis is the sheer Catching up with friends over good coffee at Parker and Otis! #TriangleTuesday #TriangleBucketListamount of beautiful things. Cookbooks, nail polish, wine, planners, purses, toys – lots of unique or local crafts and all of it gorgeous. I haven’t spent too much time browsing only because I know if I do, I’ll buy all the things!

Hannah and I had such a good time catching up and talking weddings that we completely lost track of time! But because Parker & Otis staff are champs, they didn’t say anything to us even though we stayed about 45 minutes past closing. Whoops! We left as soon as we noticed the staff cleaning up, but they were so sweet to let us keep talking and not kick us out right away. Next time, I promise to remember that they close on Sundays at
3!

They’ve got lots of local Durham things, which of course I love.

All in all, I love the vibe at Parker & Otis. Go check it out!

I was not offered any incentives for visiting Parker & Otis, and all opinions are entirely my own.
