Ever have one of those weekends where you get to just completely escape from it all?
Logan and I got to do just that a couple weeks ago when we spent a weekend in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. The timing worked out for us to go right around our anniversary, so we jumped at the chance to get away for a bit.
Our first day there was cold and rainy, but that was kind of perfect. We had a slow day reading, watching TV, and lazing around our place. We did venture out for some delicious lunch at Mellow Mushroom, where we managed to get two of the weirdest pizzas on the menu (Bayou Bleu and Thai Dye) but both were so good that we didn’t care.
Having a do-nothing day turned out to be the perfect start to our weekend, because the next day was packed with exploring. The views are just ridiculous. Logan grew up in Asheville so he loves the mountains and the Parkway at any season, but even he was surprised at just how beautiful the foliage was! What shouldn’t have surprised me was the amount of crowds. Leaf peeping is apparently a real thing, and comes with crowds. All the parking lots were packed, and the trails were pretty full all day Sunday. We had some cloudy weather for a bit but we never got rained on. Plus, it made the leaves look even more drastic in their colors.
We weren’t in a hurry Monday morning, so we squeezed in a hike. Amazingly we had the place to ourselves! The hike we chose was Sims Pond, which was only 2 miles. It’s a great short hike for a gorgeous morning.
We loved our weekend escape to the mountains!
Fall in the mountains is crazy beautiful! It was a perfect weekend escape from real life. Here’s hoping this becomes an annual fall event!
