How to make a DIY Wedding Card Album

Today I’m sharing a DIY wedding card album! It’s an easy way to keep those wedding cards safe and displayed beautifully. Beyond weddings, this works for saving birthday cards, Christmas cards, or any other mail you want to save!

One of my favorite things about weddings are the community outpouring of love and support for the couple. It’s one of the few times in someone’s life when they get everyone they love in one place! One of the best momentos of that love are the wedding cards. They’re sweet, often have thoughtful notes, and beautiful. But what in the world do you do with them after the first few months? It’s not like you’re keeping them on the mantle years after the wedding.

That’s where this DIY wedding card album comes in! It’s easy enough to make in an hour and you don’t need a bunch of fancy supplies.

Here’s what you need:

  • 2 sheets of 8.5x11in card stock in one color for the main color, or more for extra pages
  • 1 sheet 8.5x11in card stock in another color, for the contrast color
  • 2 sheets 8.5x11in card stock in either the main color or a neutral (as the inside liner)
  • Art board, cardboard or an empty clean cardboard cereal box
  • Rotary cutter
  • Craft cutting mat
  • Acrylic ruler
  • hinged album ring (1 or 2, depending on the style you want)
  • decorative letter stickers
  • strong glue
  • ribbon

How to make it:

Measure your cards to determine the size you want your album to be. I chose to make mine 6.5×9.5 inches, just slightly bigger than my biggest card. Cut two pieces cardboard to that size.

Next, cut your card stock main pieces. I chose blue for my background, since blue was one our wedding colors! You want to cut it about 1.5 inches bigger than the cardboard, so I cut mine to 7×11″.

Center the card stock onto the cardboard. Snip the corners, then fold the excess over the cardboard and glue on back. Repeat for the back cover.

To cover those inside edges, cut two more pieces of card stock. I chose a neutral color for mine, but you could also cover with the same shade you used for the main cover. This time you want these pieces to be cut about a half inch smaller than the cardboard was, so mine is about 5.5×8.5″.

How the inside of the covers looks – keeps the lines neat!

You’ve done the basic, now for the decorations! I cut a large piece of textured gold card stock to cover the bulk of the blue, measuring 5.5×8.5″. Then I put our initial stickers on a smaller piece of the original blue card stock, which create a cohesive layered design.

For the back, I cut a second piece of the gold card stock to match the front.

While everything dries, turn to your cards! You have two options for how to build your album: a more traditional book style with two rings creating a book binding, or a single ring in the top left corner. Since I had so much difference in size amongst my wedding cards, I went for one ring. One ring makes it easier to punch even holes as well.

Punch a hole in each card aligned to the ring’s placement.

Did you have any small gift tags with cute messages in them? I wanted to save those two, so I made a few card stock “pages” and glued them on. It’s a good way to save those tiny cards that would get lost otherwise!

Once the covers have fully dried, punch corresponding holes in the front and back covers. Remember the hole on the back cover will be on the opposite side than the hole on the front!

Once everything has dried, string everything onto an album ring. Tie the whole album with a string of ribbon to keep it neat!

This wedding card album makes an easy keepsake for those precious cards! I love having them sitting out instead of packed away in a box! It’s even sweeter to flip through them now that we live far away from family and friends.

I love DIY projects of all levels. Some of my other favorites are t-shirt blankets and building a kitchen table. What are your favorite DIY projects??
