Do you have plans for Independence Day? I’m en route to the lake for a couple days of fireworks and swimming with my family. Weirdly, I haven’t seen fourth of July fireworks in at least three years – I’m somehow always traveling during that night! So I’m excited to finally get to watch the show.

If you’ve got any festivities planned, let me introduce you to a fun drink that’s perfect for grilling out and watching fireworks: strawberry mojitos!

Lately I’ve found that I don’t like really sweet drinks if it’s hot outside. One sip may cool me down, but halfway through the sweetness gets cloying and gross rather than refreshing.

But that’s what’s so great about mojitos! I love that they’re sweet but not too sweet. The mint and lime bring a crispness and the addition of strawberries gives it a fruity twist without getting overly sugary.

So next time you need a fun drink, try a strawberry mojito! Plus, the color is fantastic and festive and who can argue with that logic, right???

Strawberry Mojitos

Ingredients:

  • 3 strawberries, cut into chunks
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • 2 sprigs mint, torn into bits
  • 1/2 lime
  • 2 oz white rum
  • 3 oz key lime la croix

Steps:

  1. Muddle the strawberries and mint with the simple syrup. If you don’t have a muddler, use the back of a spoon to crush the bits together.
  2. Squeeze the juice from the lime into the glass, then add rum and top with la croix.
  3. Add ice and enjoy!

Want a mocktail version? Double the la croix and skip the rum.
