NC Triangle Bucket List

Guglhupf Bakery Cafe in Durham, NC - fantastic atmosphere and great food! #triangletuesday #trianglebucketlistToday’s stop on the Triangle bucket list  is a German bakery and cafe restaurant with an unusual name: Guglhupf!

Guglhupf is just wonderful. It’s one of my go-to places. For work meetings, for catching up with friends, for getting stuff done or just to enjoy an afternoon reading and writing.  It also happens to be close to my house, so at this point it’s my go to coffee shop.

Great for enjoying beautiful weather!

I love going on a warm morning to meet friends. The building inside is light and open, full of natural light, paper lanterns and funky chandeliers. The second floor is great  for studying and getting work done – more plugs and slightly quieter. Good ambiance: the right amount of background noise to make me productive but not distractingly loud.

They’ve got a full coffee/tea/espresso menu, plus beer and wine too. But really the thing to get is their bakery items: croissants, tarts, scones, desserts, the whole nine yards. Their bakery is where it’s at y’all. Definitely go just for that.

Coffee comes with an adorable mini shortbread cookie!

They’ve also got breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch. I’ve had everything except dinner, and I’ve never gotten something I didn’t like! This most recent visit was for breakfast and I tried the French toast, which was on their bread (of course) and was amazing. There was so much I couldn’t finish it! But my favorite is definitely the weekend brunch – delish.  My biggest problem is that when I go I can’t decide between getting a meal or some pastries! I definitely recommend going with friends and sharing bites.

The crowd feels very Durham-y to me. Some students, some people digitally commuting, lots of friends catching up or work/church/social meetings over coffee or beer.

Remains of breakfast – it was so delicious I forgot to get a photo!

One warning: it’s not open on Mondays. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve pulled into the lot only to realize that the reason parking was so easy because they’re closed.

Overall: definitely go! One of my absolute favorites.
