These DIY Hot Chocolate Ornaments make a sweet and easy gift for neighbors, teachers or friends!
Scrambling for a last-minute gift idea that’s creative and Christmas-y, but still easy to have on hand? These DIY hot chocolate ornaments are so much fun to make and work perfectly as thoughtful tokens for coworkers, classmates, or as a hostess gift!
Plus, it’s the perfect compliment to sitting by the Christmas tree and eating all the cookies that get passed around this time of year!
These are cute little gifts that only take a few minutes to make. With only six ingredients, you can toss these together in 15 minutes. Each ornament holds about four servings of hot chocolate.
The only planning ahead required is to make sure you clean and dry the ornaments the day before so they’re completely dried before you add the hot chocolate.
Tools you’ll need: glass ball ornaments, funnel, measuring beakers.
DIY Hot Chocolate Ornaments
- 6 glass ball ornaments
- 18 Tbsp cocoa powder
- 17 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 ½ cup mini marshmallows
- Wash the glass ornaments and set upside down to dry.
- When the ornaments are completely dry, mix your cocoa: combine all ingredients and mix well.
- Using a funnel, fill each ornament with 6 Tbsp of the mixture.
- Fill the remainder of the ornaments with the mini marshmallows.
If you want to make individual ones rather than a batch of six, the numbers are based on this recipe with a pinch of cinnamon and salt added to each ornament.
To make the hot chocolate, all you’d have to do is add 1 1/2 Tablespoons of the hot chocolate mix to 1 cup of whatever kind of milk you want and heat! For a little extra fun, add a teaspoon of vanilla, mint, or orange extract.
I attached a note with holiday wishes and instructions for preparing. I’ve included a copy of mine below as a free download!
Want a cute little extra to go with the ornament? Add an airplane bottle of your favorite tipple to go in the hot chocolate! It’s especially good with rum, Bailey’s or bourbon. But it’s Christmas, so go with whatever makes you happy!
